Barriers for flowerbeds: universal options (21 photos)

Flower gardens often play a leading role in creating landscape design. Sometimes a small flower garden is enough to give the site a mood and bright colors. Moreover, fencing, which can be compared with the frame for an artistic picture, is important in creating a non-standard, memorable flower garden.

The curb is a fence separating the garden bed from the walkway or a decorative fence for the flower bed.

Materials for borders

To create fences, you can use ready-made plastic items that are sold in stores and in construction markets. A great idea is to independently recreate a non-standard decorative fence for flower beds of any shape or height. And what material (natural or plastic) to use, the site owner determines personally.

Types of wooden fences, their advantages and disadvantages

The fences created from natural wood look great on the plots. It is quite simple to make wooden borders for flowerbeds with your own hands.

Fence, wicker of wicker or reed, will give the garden openwork mood. For arranging the structure, pegs of the same length are driven into the ground at the same distance from each other (determined by the approximate length of the twigs). Alternately braiding pegs with twigs, they create wall fencing for flowerbeds with their own hands. Borders in the form of baskets of different diameters can be made from small round-shaped lattices, and it will be interesting to arrange square / rectangular designs in the same line as flower stands.

Advantages of the fence: an environmentally friendly natural material is used, the shape of the flowerbed or the length of the fence can be very diverse, the material is free. Disadvantages: short service life (untreated wood will quickly crack, will lose its shape).

A decorative border for flower beds in the form of a picket fence is constructed of logs from 15 cm to 50 cm long. The height of the blanks depends on the diameter of the tree (the thinner the tree, the shorter the log), the plot parameters (harmoniously looks like if a large area is fenced with thick logs). It is desirable to pre-clean the tree from the bark and process the corresponding protective primers. Thin blanks sharpen on one side and drive a wooden mallet into the ground. Thick logs are instilled into the ground, and the depth of the instillation is determined individually.

With a similar border it is good to make out country paths, flower beds near the open areas. It is recommended to cover logs with clear varnish, not paint, in order to preserve the natural beauty of the wooden texture.

Advantages: the ability to create smooth, stepped lines of fencing for flowerbeds with your own hands (if you dig in logs at different depths), environmental friendliness of the material, inexpensive cost, the work does not require special skills and special tools. The disadvantage is that the wooden fence will not be quickly disassembled, therefore it is recommended to carefully plan the placement on the section of flowerbeds and paths.

The naturalness of wooden barriers pleases the eye, allows you to fully enjoy the fascinating pattern of wood texture.

Iron Fences

Metal fencing for flower beds, of course, look original and stylish, according to the city.

Forged and welded products are made of metal. Forged items give the sites finesse and weightlessness. Since it is possible to make a fence on request, the drawing / ornament of any style is chosen. If the house already has wrought-iron elements (fences of balconies, bars on the windows), then it would be a great idea to repeat their pattern on the fence for flower beds. This will create a single harmonious mood throughout the site.

Forging to order is quite expensive, so you can install welded fences for flower beds and beds - quite a budget option.

Advantages: durability, do not suffer from the action of precipitation, simple installation, does not require a foundation for installation. Disadvantages: high price of forged products.

Decorative concrete curbs

Concrete fences for flowerbeds are finished products. When choosing a suitable model, you only need to decide on the look, shape, size. Construction and country shops offer separate fences of various geometric shapes that are installed directly on the ground (you must first make a small recess in the ground in the form of a border). Garden fences with a bottom (in the form of bowls) are placed on a concrete base / mortar.

Advantages: special care is not required, tolerate temperature / humidity drops, durable. Disadvantages: "sad" appearance. To make the product attractive, it must be further decorated, at least painted with paint.

This is a very popular and low-cost version of upgrading the cottage and garden plots. Plastic fencing for flowerbeds amaze with a variety of shades, shapes, styles. For the arrangement of borders are offered:

  • flexible curb tape, which performs a rather demarcating function of fencing for beds and flower beds, than decorative. It is realized in rolls of different lengths, from 10 cm to 30 cm wide. The surface can be even or wavy. The strip digs into the ground to the desired depth;
  • ready-made sectional fences for flowerbeds are very diverse in color and decor. At the edges of each section there are special legs that are pressed into the ground for fixation.

Advantages: low price, do not require maintenance, many manufacturers, a wide range of plastic curbs, easy to install / clean. Disadvantage: short service life, sensitivity to temperature fluctuations, fragility of enclosing section products.

Although brick is used as the main material in construction, it is also quite often used to create decorative fencing for flowerbeds with your own hands. And for mini-buildings, you can use both old brick (from collapsed masonry) and new. Old products used to be whitewashed. Today, for the design of garden curbs they use immediately facing material. Borders for brick beds can be laid out "dry" - without fixing mixtures. But it is more practical, safer to build a flower bed on a concrete base and fasten the masonry with cement mortar. If the flowerbeds are decorated with the same brick as the facing of the house, then a harmonious composition of the site is created.

Beautiful stone fence for flower beds will decorate any area. If the construction does not use formwork, the vertical surface will maintain a textured "torn" edge. Since the masonry is fixed with cement mortar and remains for many years, you should carefully choose the location of the flower bed, its shape, the height of the fence.

Materials for work: any stones (pebbles, sandstone, limestone), polyethylene / roofing material, rope with pegs, cement mortar.
