Wooden plinth: features of use in a city apartment and a private house (20 photos)

In the process of installing the floor covering between it and the wall, it is recommended to leave compensating gaps. They are necessary so that when the temperature drops, the finishing layer of expensive finishing material laid on the floor does not rest against the wall and does not deform. In rooms with ideal geometry, compensation gaps are 0.5-1 cm, if builders erected walls without special diligence, then the gaps can sometimes reach 2-3 cm. . It represents a figured lath with a profile of the most different type. Simple installation, reasonable price and reliability make it the most popular type of baseboards for many centuries.

The main types of wooden plinth

Technologies do not stand still: the emergence of quadrilateral milling machines, the rapid development of construction chemicals and other innovative solutions have diversified the production of baseboards. In any case, the basis of this decorative element remains natural wood. The industry offers the following types of wooden plinth:

  • from the massif - it is created from an integral wooden bar;
  • veneered - produced by gluing decorative veneer of expensive wood on the basis of cheaper wood types;
  • spliced - created from several short wooden bars by gluing using the thorn-groove technology.

The massive wooden plinth from an oak or cherry differs in high price. For this reason, manufacturers of high-quality products have mastered the technology of veneering. They glue the classic wooden plinth "pine" with a thin layer of expensive wood. Veneer oak, wenge, merbau, cherry, black ash and various exotic species are used. This technology allows you to make a plinth exclusive design for expensive interiors. At the same time, its price is not much higher than that of a high-quality pine plinth.

Decorative variety of baseboards

Different types of wooden plinths are produced depending on the decorative characteristics of the profile. All of them can be divided into three large groups:

  • wide wooden plinths;
  • figure skirting board;
  • high plinth.

The device of wooden plinths is extremely simple: in profile, any type of this decorative element resembles a right-angled triangle, the long side of which plays the main decorative role. If the base of the triangle is long, then it is a wide wooden plinth designed to close gaps of considerable size. For small expansion gaps, a high baseboard with a base of small width is used.

Plinths are made from a variety of materials: plastic, ceramics, MDF, aluminum, polystyrene foam. It is completely not fair to make installation of a wooden plinth only in those rooms where the wooden floor is laid. This type of decorative elements perfectly combines with such types of flooring as linoleum, parquet, flooring, laminate. A variety of profiles and the ability to select a specific wood species makes the choice as simple and optimal as possible

In the kitchen, you can use a white wooden plinth, covered with high-quality paint, it will last several decades. Decorative skirting with a complex-shaped front surface fits perfectly into classic interiors. It can be used in any rooms of the house, decorated in the style of Rococo, Baroque, Art Nouveau or Art Noir. The plinth with a strict profile will perfectly fit into interiors of style minimalism, a high tech.

One of the main advantages of this material is simple installation of a wooden plinth. If you use products from soft wood, for example, pine, then you can use simple or finishing nails for fastening. Stronger species, such as oak and larch, require a more thoughtful approach to installation. Screws are used as a fastener, pre-drilling holes for them in the plinth. The cap of the fastener must be recessed. Before installation, the plinth should be coated with a protective varnish, wax or paint.

When installing a conventional wooden plinth, it is washed down with the help of a miter box with a 45-degree angle in opposite directions. This carpentry tool is easy to use, but the quality of the final result does not always satisfy professionals. Professionals use special saws, in which you can set the angle of rotation to the nearest degree. For such a tool, you can choose a canvas that is easy to cope with oak or larch wood. Spil turns ideally smooth and accurate, and the place of docking in the corner has no flaws.
